DC-Prisaa Meet JMC, HCDC chessers shine

THE Jose Maria College (JMC) and Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) bagged the titles at stake in the just-concluded Davao City Private Schools Athletic Association (DC-Prisaa) Meet chess competition held at AMA Computer College.
JMC garnered a total of nine points to rule the men's team event while Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) came in close second with eight points in the round-robin format chessfest.

The University of Mindanao had five points to grab the third spot while AMACC made two points to place fourth.
JMC's Jerwell Andoy garnered three points to emerge champion in men's individual board 1 while HCDC'S Neptali Batucan II placed second with two points to settle for the runner-up honors.
JMC's Robert Mendez also scored perfect three points to stamp rivals Dexter Echalico (2.0) and Antonio Escudero in board 2.
University of Mindanao standout Danilo Engay, Jr., who earned three points, bested two-pointer Floyd Anthony Santos of JMC and one-pointer HCDC's Camilo Bernabente for the board 3 crown.
HCDC bet Jimson Trianga also made three points to clinch the board 4 gold at the expense of UM's Elmer Suico (2.0), JMC's Clark Kent Anabieza (2.) and AMACC's Mohammad Nurwaly Cariga.
In the distaff side, HCDC gained six points over UM (5.) and JMC (1.0) that wounded up second and third, respectively.
Mary Israel Palero lifted HCDC by sweeping two of her matches to claim the women's individual board 1 gold against her UM and JMC opponents.
HCDC's Jane Lagang, UM's Exiquilla Apao and JMC's Erna Liwanan shared the board 2 standings with one point each.
HCDC player Jesa Marie Bacsal got two points to govern board 3 over UM's Cyrille Gwynn Vidad and JMC's Meralyn Sase while the board 4 gold went to UM's Princess Shayne Caterial (2.0) who prevailed over HCDC's Ma. Helinda Mateo and JMC's Ronnalie Malabad.
Andoy, Mendez, Engay and Trianga as well as Palero, Lagang, Bacsal and Caterial will banner the city's chess team to the Regional Prisaa Meet slated Feb. 24 to 26.
