All set for DBL-Phoenix cagefest

IT'S all systems go for the eight-team Duterte Basketball League-Phoenix Petroleum Philippines Inc. 36-Above Invitational Basketball Tournament that will kick off at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center.
Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) Davao City commissioner lawyer Marvin "Oying" Melodias bared this during the coaches' briefing at the Dimsum Restaurant Matina Friday.

"We are all set for the Sunday opening. We will have short parade of competing teams with their respective muses. Top Phoenix Petroleum officials will be on hand to give keynote messages. Three games will be played after the program," Melodias, also Davao City's General Services Office (GSO) officer-in-charge, said.
Top Agro, an agriculture products company, clashes against GSO in the 2:30 p.m. curtain raiser while BLBE Auto Repair Shop collides with Maa-based Playsite at 4 p.m.
The main match pits the Philippine National Police (PNP) Selection against the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) Riser at 5:30 p.m.
The teams will play the single round-robin format eliminations where the top four teams will advance to the semi-finals. The first two teams will have the twice-to-beat advantage in the one-game semis en-route to the sudden death championship.
At stake is P50,000 for the champion and P10,000 for the runner-up. The third and fourth placers will pocket P5,000 and P3,000, respectively.
The selection of best muse among eight contestants will serve as highlight of the opening rites. The top four bets will receive a cash prize of P1,500 each while the bottom four will take home P500 apiece.
The tournament is sanctioned by SBP Mindanao Cluster B director Regino "Boy" Cua. It is a joint effort of PPPI, SBP Davao City, Almendras Gym DCRC, SBP Mindanao Cluster B and Vice Mayor's Office.
Games will be played on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays until March 28.
