UM taekwondo jins top DC-Prisaa meet

THE University of Mindanao (UM) ruled the just-concluded Davao City Private Schools Athletic Association (DC-Prisaa) Meet taekwondo competition at the University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC) Bonifacio Gym.
UM collected a total of 10 golds and three silvers while DMMA College of Southern Philippines (DCSP) garnered three golds and two silvers. Host UIC clinched one gold and three silvers while Brokenshire College copped one gold and one bronze. Davao Doctors College accounted for four silvers and one bronze.

UM varsity mainstays Gary Jones Pradas, Ian Ray Christopher, Ella Quiocho and Rdeem Barate topped their respective men's events.
Pradas took the men's bantamweight gold over DCSP's Allan Garde while Christopher bested Marjunne Acebo for the featherweight gold and Quiocho prevailed over Crisostomo Liceralde of DDC and Nicolai Owen David for the lightweight gold. Liceralde and David settled for silver and bronze, respectively. Barate, for his part, annexed the middleweight gold.
DCSPs' gold medalists were Leonardo Avenido, Wencilito Estrera and Christian Libre. Avenido stamp his pinweight rivals Mikhail Ponce de Leon of UIC, Nell Jude Eresma of DDC and Mark Generalao of BC. De Leon went home with the silver while Eresma and Generalao wounded up with a bronze each.
Estrera emerged champion in flyweight division while UM's Vonn Andrew Villaruz had the silver. Cedric Rosal of Mats and Laurence Alcantara of DDC finished with bronzes.
Libre overcame UM's Van Aylwin Manuta who got the silver and UIC's David Ebol who pocketed the bronze in the welterweight class.
Brokenshire's Jerry Joseph Valderama Jr. salvaged the heavyweight division gold at the expense of UM's Jhesser Sumbe.
In the women's side, UM pinweight Donna Pasana defeated DDC's Daoden Clomata while UM flyweight Fharmaine Peñanueva won over Juniora Antonio of Mats.
Bantamweights Ma. Geraldine Suela of UM and Rhia Boiser of DDC grabbed the first two spots while Tiara Patricia Ramboanga of UM captured the featherweight gold over Sarahlyn villanueva of UIC who ended up with the silver.
Middleweight Shielan Lederesa, welterweight Angelyn Garcia and heavyweight Avigail Pagal also chipped in golds for UM even as UIC ace Charmaine Segura survived Margie Padayon of DCSP for the lightweight gold.
The champions will advance to the Regional Prisaa Meet on Feb. 24 to 26 at UM Matina. (MLSA)
