Batch 2002 wins in BKBL tourney

BATCH 2002 defeated the 420 team, 82-77, to pick up its first win in the 4th Blue Knights Basketball League (BKBL) at the Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) Matina Campus Sports Complex Saturday.

Both teams engaged in a fierce battle right from the start and were tied at 22 all at the end of the first quarter. But Batch 2002 took the lead courtesy of Caloy Salvador's 10-point explosion late in the second to outscore the 420 team at halftime.

But 420 dribblers fought back in the third quarter as they held down Batch 2002 to 11 points to take the 1 point lead, 60-59, at the end of the third.

The fourth quarter was a neck-and-neck battle until Batch 2002 launched a big finishing kick to prevail in the end. Compounding 420's woes were their costly turnovers late in the game.

Salvador was the main man for Batch 2002 with 23 points, while Jeff Solidum contributed 22 points.

Batch 2009 also emerged winner over NABA, 101-58 as Edgar Morada fired 22 points, while Martin Maningo chipped in 14. Dave Mamburam led all NABA scorers with 18.

The AdDu Engineering and Architecture (EA) prevailed over the AdDu College of Nursing (CoN), 70-61, for its first win in the open division.

Paolo Dailisan, Paul Habla III, and Dann Jaraplasan combined for 33 points. Hans Guingen of CoN scored 15 points in a losing cause.
