Alabang grabs one-point lead

ALABANG fired 124 points to open up a one-point lead in the championship division at the start of the 65th Philippine Airlines (PAL) Interclub Golf Tournament Regular Men's play Wednesday.
Santiago Lorenzo led the surprising Alabang assault right on the first round of competition with 33 points, while Miguel Shah and Andres Saldana added 32 and 33, respectively at the world-class Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club as the team built a one-point lead over defending champion Del Monte and last year's runner-up Cebu Country Club.

Basti Lorenzo was the other scorer with 28.
Del Monte, seeking a third crown in the event considered as the country's national team championship, amassed 123 points to stay within striking distance.
Cebu matched the score to also stay a point behind the leader.
Banny Abano, Leonardo Lofranco and Julius Bautista each had 31 points to spearhead the Del Monte bid.
The veteran Yoyong Velez also came up with a fine game, finishing with 30 to complete the team scoring.
The Cebuano golfers got 34 from Gen Nagai and 32 from Bayani Garcia to stay close. Carl Almario added 29 and the fourth scorer comes from either of Joven Neri and Mario Sarmiento's 28.
