Lapu-Lapu, Sasa cagers win

THE Barangay Lapu-Lapu and Barangay Sasa clinched the titles of their respective divisions at the close of the Summerfest 3-on-3 Basketball Challenge Barangames at the NCCC Mall of Davao Kadayawan Hall Sunday.

The Buddi Belches-coached Barangay Lapu-Lapu defeated Barangay 22-C, 21-17, as Van Tarranza sank the game-winning basket behind the arc.

Tarranza said he was nervous but was glad that he made the shot.


Barangay Lapu-Lapu, went home with P10,000 and a trophy for the feat while Barangay 22-C received P7,000. Third-placer Barangay San Antonio Agdao got P5,000 and fourth-placer Barangay Matina Crossing went home with P3,000.

The Jun Rosique-mentored Barangay Sasa, meanwhile, defeated Barangay Talomo, 16-14, in girls U16 final.

The champion team, which was composed of Lizamae Rosique Iralyn Mae Oyanib, Mary Ann Teofilo and Mary France Abing, also received P10,000 and a trophy while Talomo bagged P7,000.

Barangay 21-C, for its part, annexed the boys and girls U12 crowns. The boys team, a 21-19 winner over, Barangay 1-A, was bannered by Seiya Taga, Rafael Cambonoga, Ricky Saja and Merlito Enhambre. Barangays 1-A, 19-B and Sto. Niño Mintal wounded up in the next three spots.

The Barangay 21-C girl dribblers subdued Barangay 40-D, 10-8, as the latter placed second and Barangay Matina Aplaya landed third.

The champions in the girls and boys U12 categories took home P8,000 and a trophy while the next three placers got P5,000, P3,000 and P2,000.

The cagefest was organized by the Duaw Dabaw Foundation, City Tourism Investment Promotions, Inc. and the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office as part of the Davao Summerfest 2012.
