SOME 4,000 runners are expected to participate in the 1st PR-Media Fun Run slated on July 14 in an out-and-back course at the Rizal Park.
Real Media Force co-founder and race organizer Anthony Allada, who was guest at the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at Tower Inn on Tuesday, said the footrace will feature the 5-kilometer men's, women's and the media practitioners' categories.
The 5k course will start at Rizal Park and will traverse at C.M. Recto Street, Quirino Avenue, Magallanes Street and back to the orgigin.
"We hope to invite more participants since it will be for a noble cause)," Allada in the vernacular.
The chosen beneficiary is the Adopt-A-Tree project of Barangay 19-B where the organizers will plant 1,000 Malibago seedlings as part of the rehabilitation program for the Davao River.
There will also be a ceremonial tree-planting activity at Barangay 19-B after the event said Allada.
Allada, however, suggested Run Club Davao to exclude their pool of supported runners in the said footrace.
"Nagagamay na ang mga naga-apil ug fun run kay mawadan na sila ug gana kay pare-parehas ra man gud gihapon ang mga madaog (The participants in fun runs have been declining since they have lost interest because the winners are just the same)," he said.
Cash prizes are at stake for the winners in each category. Extravagant prizes are also at stake in the raffle draw including a brand new Toyota Vios, and Suzuki Raider 150, and Acer Laptop, 20 Nokia mobile phones and 20 digital cameras.
Registration is pegged at P500 inclusive of singlet, snacks and a raffle entry.
For registration, go to the Run Club Davao office at Plaza del Carmen in Loyola Street, Barrio Obero or at the Radyo Ukay station along Ponciano Reyes St. (RSA)
