Literatus gains in AYCC 5th, 6th rounds

DAVAO City's Fide Master (FM) Austin Jacob Literatus recovered in the fifth and sixth rounds to share the third to seventh place in the ongoing Asian Youth Chess Championship 2012 at Hotel Chaya, Hikkaduwa in Sri Lanka as of Friday.
The 15th-seeded 15-year-old Dabawenyo upset eighth-seed Akash PC Iyer of India and settled for a draw with third-seed Indian FM Girish Koushi in the last two rounds. The latter took the top spot of the boys under-16 with five points followed by compatriot SL Narayanan who tallied 4.5 points.
Literatus, a triple gold and double silver medalist of the Asean+ Age Group Chess Championships in Hue City, Vietnam recently, earned a total of four points along with Iran FM Javahbakht Nima, Mongolia's Lkhagvasuren Tsedvee, India's Sahoo Utkal Ranjan and Vietnam FM Le Tuan Minh.
The Doña Carmen Denia National High School senior was set to test the mettle of seventh-seed Indian Sahoo Utkal Ranjan in the seventh round of the Swiss System format chessfest.
Toril-based Literatus suffered his first loss at the hands of Narayanan in the third round.
