Pinoys wiped out at World 9-ball

NOT one Filipino survived as Lee Vann Corteza, Efren "Bata" Reyes, Dennis Orcullo, Jundel Mazon and Antonio Gabica were wiped out from the 2012 World 9-Ball Championship at Al Sadd Sports Club in Doha, Qatar on Thursday.
Gabica succumbed to China's Lee He Wen, 9-11, in the quarter-final round following his victories over Mika Immonen (11-9) of Finland and Yang Ching Shun (11-9) of Chinese Taipei.
Corteza bowed to Immonen, 5-11, even as Reyes suffered a heartbreaking 10-11 loss to Germany's Dominic Jentsch in the knockout Round of 32.
Mazon, an 11-3 victor over Konstantin Stepanov of Russia, fell at the hands of Ko Pin Yi of Chinese Taipei, 9-11, while Orcullo suffered a 6-11 defeat to Nick Van den Berg of The Netherlands.
The semi-finals pits Ralf Souquet of Germany, an 11-9 winner over Nick van den Berg, against Chinese Lee He Wen and Darren Appleton of Great Britain, who defeated Ko Pin Yi (11-9) against Japanese Naoyuki Ohi, who hacked out an 11-9 triumph over Karl Boyes of Great Britain. (MLSA)
