FIDE Master (FM) Austin Jacob Literatus salvaged two bronze medals at the close of the Asian Youth Chess Championship 2012 at Hotel Chaya, Hikkaduwa in Sri Lanka on Monday.
Literatus, 15-year-old senior from Doña Carmen Denia National High School, placed third in boys under-16 standard event that was topped by Indian Girish Koushik who finished with eight points in the nine-round Swiss System format chessfest.
The 15th-seeded Dabawenyo earned six points along with Vietnam's Le Tuan Minh but the latter had superior tiebreaks to grab the silver.
Literatus, who clinched three golds and two silvers in the 13th Asean+ Age-Group Chess Championships in Hue City, Vietnam, bowed to top-seed FM Javanbakht Nima of Iran but bounced back with a win over Pajoumatajani Farbod of Iran in the last two rounds.
AYCC, unlike AGCC, only gives away one gold, one silver and one bronze. The AGCC awards up to three medals in each category, thus, three players can win golds or silvers or bronzes in case of a tie.
Literatus also settled for bronze in the blitz event with five points. Iran's Javanbahkt Nima and India's Girish Koushik wounded up with the gold and silver, respectively.
