18 teams join 3rd Mandaya Cup

IT'S all system go for the 18-team, two-division 3rd Royal Mandaya Cup basketball tournament as it kicks off at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Genesis 88 Gym, Ecoland Subdivision along Ecowest Drive.
Tournament manager Jek-Jek Melendres, who guested at the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn yesterday, said Ateneo de Davao University will defend its mini division title against Precious International School of Davao (PISD), Stella Maris Academy of Davao (Smad), Assumption College of Davao (ACD), Holy Child School of Davao (HCSD) and University of the Immaculate Concepcion (UIC).
Competing in the cadets division are ACD, Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School, UIC, Addu, Emar Learning Center, Holy Cross College of Davao, PISD, Agro-Indsutrial Foundation College of Davao (AIFCP), Ford Academy of the Arts, HCSD, Smad and Saint Peter’s College of Toril (SPCT).
"Games will be played on Saturdays and Sundays until the third week of August since finals matches will be the preliminary games of the Kadayawan commercial basketball," Melendres said.
Cash prizes await the first to fourth placers in each category. Special prizes will also be given to the most valuable player and Mythical Five.
The cagefest is sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) and supported by Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and City Councilor Paolo Duterte. (RPSA)
