THE Don Enrique Bustamante National High School (DEBNHS) and the Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School (DRANHS) posted contrasting wins in the Mayor Inday Sara and Vice Mayor Rody Duterte Public High School Basketball Tournament 2012 at the Bernardo Carpion National High School covered court Sunday.
DEBNHS finally entered the winning column in Bracket A after defeating the Crossing Bayabas National High School, 57-51.
Alvin Renoy scored a team-high 18 points for DEBNHS while Rolando Besera added 12.
DRANHS, meanwhile, won via forfeiture over the Erico Nograles National High School for its third straight victory.
DRANHS earlier dominated the Talomo National High School (TNHS), 69-39, while the Do¤a Carmen Denia National High School (DCDNHS) thrashed the Davao City National High School, 66-36, in their respective games Saturday afternoon.
DRANHS head coach Ronnie Berato, in an interview, said the biggest key in their winning streak is their tight defense.
"I really motivate my players to step-up, especially on defense since offensive plays will just follow if we have more ball possessions," Berto said in the vernacular.
Assistant coach Joselito Pagalan, meanwhile, said they will have to continue practicing so that they could maintain their unbeaten record.
Pagalan also said they are regularly playing tune-up games against the Ateneo de Davao University, Philippine Women's College, Precious International School of Davao and Emar Learn Center.
The Francisco Bangoy National High School was to play against DCDNHS, while the Mabini National High School was to meet Sta. Ana National High School yesterday afternoon.
The tournament is sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) under Mindanao Region B director Regino "Boy" Cua. (Ruji Peter S. Abat)
