THE Ateneo de Davao University mini squad clashes against Holy Child School of Davao in the resumption of the 3rd Royal Mandaya Cup basketball tournament at the Genesis 88 Gym at Ecoland Subdivision, Ecowest Drive in Matina today.
Gametime is at 9:30 a.m. Ateneo mini head coach Henry Asilum earlier said they will take one game at a time although their ultimate goal is make it to the finals. His team demolished University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC), 97-42, in the opener last weekend. Asilum said UIC was among the toughest teams in the tournament but beating the latter does not guarantee the Ateneans the rest of the games will be easy.
"Everybody wants to enter the finals and win the championship. We can't think about it yet. We still have the eliminations in our mind," Asilum told Sun.Star Davao in a recent conversation.
The veteran coach is expected to rely on the services of Lawrence Marion Angeles, Lance Carr, Miggy Castillo and Eric Tuadles who combined forces to secure the win opposite UIC.
The 8 a.m. curtain raiser pits Stella Maris Academy of Davao (Smad) against Precious International School of Davao (PISD) in the other mini match.
Cadet games start at 11 a.m. with Agro-Industrial Foundation College of the Philippines (AIFCP) Junior Sailors colliding with PISD followed by the encounter between UIC and Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School (DRANHS) at 12:30 p.m.
The tournament is presented by Glenn Escandor of the Royal Mandaya Hotel and sanctioned by Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas Mindanao Cluster B director Regino "Boy" Cua.
