WITH a huge budget cut, the month-long 16-event 27th Kadayawan Sportsfest will kick off this week in separate venues here.
Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO) officer-in-charge Pochollo Elegino yesterday said the Kadayawan Executive Committee (Execom) only approved P1.2M for this year's staging of the annual sports meet, thus, other events were not included in the roster including bowling, dancesport, arnis, dama, swimming, badminton and skimboarding.
"Our regular budget for every Kadayawan, Pasko Fiesta and Araw ng Dabaw sportsfest is P1.5M. We are happy that despite the budget cut we will continue with the usual holding of the sportsfest," Elegino said during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn.
He, however, assured that events not included in the Kadayawan meet will be prioritized in the Christmas sportsfest.
He said the inter-secondary boys and girls volleyball is set to open today and tomorrow and August 11-12 at the Davao City National High School (DCNHS) while the Mayor Inday Sara and Vice Mayor Rody Duterte inter-collegiate basketball tournament will open on Monday at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center.
