700 runners expected in Delo race

ORGANIZERS bared on Tuesday that 700 runners have already signed up for the first-ever Delo Kadayawan Half Marathon that will hit the road in an out-and-back course from Ecowest Drive, Quimpo Boulevard on August 19.

Race director Kenneth Sai of Vantage Sports Promotions, in an e-mail to Sun.Star Davao, said early registrants include running groups like Team Davao Runners, Team Titans Davao, Team Titans Manila, Mt. Apo Runners Club and Sunday Runners Club as well as companies Charifer Builders Inc., Pagasa Fruit Morning Breakers, PIC Real Estate, Limeink, Mikrocell, Davao City Water District, Penlab, Diagnostics Center and Meter King Inc.

The University of Southeastern Philippines (Usep), Ateneo de Davao University and Brokenshire College will also field entries to the race that features male and female three-kilometer (3K), 5K, 10K and 21K categories.

Sai said they expect to hit their 1,500 target of participants with less than two weeks to go before the event that offers a total cash prize of P80,000.

He said five winners of the Caltex Cool Roadtrip Getaway will be drawn during the event where the lucky winner will go home with a brand new 2012 4x2 MT Isuzu D-Max with P20,000 worth of Caltex fuel (in the form of Starcash). Ice Age 4 Movie premium items will also be raffled off.

Registration is going on at Adidas Shop, second floor, Gaisano Mall. Fees are P250 (3K), P300 (5K, 10K) and P350 (21K).

Participants will avail of fuel and lubricant discount cards upon registration. Discounts may be availed until September 30. (MLSA)
