DCC, DCDNHS bag JVR chess titles

THE Davao Central College (DCC) and the Doña Carmen Denia National High School (DCDNHS) ruled their respective divisions in the 3rd Jesus V. Rosario (JVR) Inter-School Invitational Chess Team Championship that concluded Saturday at the JVR Training Center along J.P. Laurel Ave.
The DCC tandem of Dona and Yna Yngayo scored a total of 12.5 points to clinch the high school girls title at the expense of the Davao City National High School (DCNHS), and DCDNHS that placed third and fourth, respectively.
DCNHS bets Hannah Garbo and Marianne Infiesto combined for 8.5 points while DCDNHS players Mary Jonah Lequin and Marie Harayo tallied eight.
The DCDNHS pair of John Ray Batucan and Ardy Harayo, Jr., meanwhile, annexed the high school boys crown by amassing 12.5 points. They prevailed over the University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC), Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) and the Holy Cross of Davao College that shared the second to fourth places with similar 8.5 points.
Ateneo's John Marvin Miciano and Jerome Paulo Balite finished with 12.5 points to seize the elementary boys title over Magallanes Elementary School (11.0) and the Doña Pilar Learning Center (10.5).
In the distaff side, DCC's Irish and Lorraine Yngayo earned 13.0 to capture the title while Sta. Ana Elementary School (11.0) and San Isidro Elementary School (9.0) wounded up in the next two spots.
Outstanding High School players were Batucan, Dhona Yngayo and Holy Cross of Davao College's Ella Grace Moulic who each scored perfect seven points while Miciano, Lorraine Yngayo and Honey Buenafe were named outstanding elementary players for also winning all their respective seven games.
The event was organized by Emcor Inc. and sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines under regional director James Infiesto.
