Kadayawan karatefest kicks off Saturday

THE Philippine Shotokan Karatedo Association International will host an event dubbed 2012 Kadayawan Festival Karatedo Invitational Tournament which kicks off this Saturday at the NCCC Mall Activity Center.
Bern Rexander Tacay, Philippine Karatedo Federation-National Sports Association Inc. (PKF-NSA Inc.) regional director and tournament director, bared this in an e-mailed statement to Sun.Star Davao.
Tacay said the karatefest will feature the men's, women's and age group divisions. The categories entered in the men's division are the individual kata, -55 kilograms, -60 kg, -67 kg, +67 kg, open-weight, team and the master's kumite while the women's division includes the -50 kg, -55 kg, -61 kg, open-weight and the team kumite categories.
The age group division, meanwhile, will have the 7 to 9 years old, 10 to 13 and 14-17 kumite categories along with the 7 to 10, 11 to 13 and the 14 to 17 kata events.
Cash prizes, trophies and medals are up for grabs for the winners in each category.
Some 30 karatedo teams from across the country are set to test their mettle in the karatefest backed by the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office. (RPSA)
