ZE, AV advance to finals

ZOELO Extreme (ZE) and Accelerate Vega (AV) arranged a titular showdown after beating their opponents in the semifinals of the 4th Trip Ko Phoenix Fuels U16 Basketball Cup yesterday at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center.
The Ramon Pido-mentored ZE edged the Accelerate Supreme (AS), 71-68. Glenn Sulit sparked ZE with 16 points while John Stephen Pichon added 13. Gilmar Paras of AS scored a game-high 18 points in a losing effort.
The Rhoderick Conda-coached AV, meanwhile, defeated the Cycle Fork Oil (CFO), 76-71, behind the heroics of Christian Carl Guano and Jefferson Medes, who combined for 26 points. Nicole Barrera came up short in lifting CFO despite pouring in 22 points.
The title match is set on August 31 at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center.
The champion will be taking home P15,000 while the next three placers will receive P10,000, P7,5000 and P5,000, respectively.
Special awards will also be given away to the Most Valuable Player and the Mythical Five selection.
The tournament is presented by Phoenix Petroleum Philippines Inc. (PPPI) and sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) under Mindanao Region B director Regino "Boy" Cua. (RPSA)
