Amazona, Caorte bag titles

JELEARDO Amazona of Mati City, Davao Oriental and Clarissa Caorte of Davao City captured titles at the close of the Babolat Junior Tennis Satellite Circuit I at the General Santos City court on Tuesday.
Multi-titled Amazona lived up to his billing by topping the boys 16-under and 18-under categories. He spanked Jan Jeric Accion of Davao City, 6-2, 7-5, in their 16-under titular showdown before beating Mikko Ringia of Koronadal City, 6-2, 6-3, for the boys 18-under crown.
Caorte, for her part, survived a 6-3, 4-6, 10-4 win over fellow Dabawenya Dana Abad in girls 12-under final.
Sharyl delos Santos of General Santos City also swept two titles following her 6-4, 6-4 win over Dianne Caballero of Midsayap in girls 14-under. Delos Santos doubled the feat with a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Caballero in girls 16-under.
Cebu City's Godfrey Seno stunned Christian Fel Lopez of the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos), 6-2, 7-5 to clinch the boys 14-under title.
Koronadal City's Janus Ringia and Isulan, Sultan Kudarat's Mark Alfred Directo also shared the limelight. Ringia outclassed Duma Hakim Boloto of Marawi City, 6-1, 6-4, in boys 12-under while Directo overwhelmed Abdul Hanan Cariga of Davao City, 6-2, 6-2, in 10-under unisex championship match.
In doubles, Accion and Emer Cariga defeated Emmanuel Estrope and Mikko Ringia, 7-5, 6-2, in boys 18-under while the tandem of Diadem Sasota and Carlyn Bless Guarde subdued the Abad-Caorte pair, 6-2, 6-3 in girls 14-under.
Jafary Cariga and Lopez stamped Boloto-Ringia, 6-0, 6-1, in boys 14-under doubles even as John David Velez and Directo combined forces to wallop the duo of Abdul Hanan Cariga and Minette Bentillo, 6-2, 6-1, in 10-under unisex.
Winners received prizes from General Santos City Club president lawyer Jun Lagare and Techno-Sports manager Mark Dequito of Babolat.
A total of 150 entries joined the Philippine Tennis Association (Philta)-sanctioned Group 2 event held as part of the city's Tuna Festival celebration.
Philta regional vice-president and organizer Juanito "Titong" Cansino, Jr. thanked General Santos City for hosting the netfest.
The Dunlop-Atty. Palasan Mindanao Junior Tennis Series, meanwhile, will push through on Sept. 15 to 17 at the Nazareth Tennis Courts in Cagayan de Oro City. Deadline of entries is at 12 noon of Sept. 14.
