Ateneo-Davao takes top spots

THE Ateneo de Davao University grabbed the top spots in two divisions having been undefeated in the 2012 Best Center Small Basketeers Philippines (SBP)/Passerelle Twin Tournament that resumed over the weekend at the Brokenshire Amphitheatre.
Ateneo edged arch-rival Holy Child School of Davao (HCSD), 60-57, to clinch the No. 1 position in the passerelle-A division with a record of six straight wins. This came on the heels of Ateneo's victories over Emar Human and Environmental College (EHEC), 62-55, and the University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC), 66-39.
Ateneo A also topped the SBP division with a clean 4-0 slate after the elimination round. Ateneo A routed Philippine Women's College (PWC), 79-33, following their wins against HCSD, 66-36, and UIC, 52-28.
The Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School (DRANHS), meanwhile, paced passerelle-B with a 3-0 mark. DRANHS thrashed the Doña Carmen Denia National High School (DCDNHS), 87-57.
Semis games passerelle-A and SBP divisions are set on Friday at the Goldstar Gymnasium in Bo. Obrero. The passerelle-A semis pits No. 1 Ateneo against No. 4 Ford Academy of the Arts and No. 2 HCSD against No. 3 EHEC.
In SBP semis, top-seed Ateneo battles fourth-ranked PWC while second-seed HCSD collides with third-seed UIC.
Winners will advance to the finals on Saturday where champions will receive cash prizes and trophies. They will also represent the city to the regional finals next month. (RPSA)
