THE Davao City Athletic Association (DCAA) Meet will get underway on October 22 to 26 at the Davao City National High School (DCNHS) grounds.
Department of Education-Physical Education and School Sports (Deped-Pess) supervisor Jimmy Cerojales, in an interview at his office, said the Deped-Davao City is allocating P2.5 million for the annual sportsfest that serves as qualifying tournament for the Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet en-route to the Palarong Pambansa.
Cerojales said Units 1 to 4 are prioritized in their budget that includes food and transportation while other units, composed of private schools, have their own athletic fees.
He added the rest of the budget will cover officiating fees, equipment and other operational expenses.
In preparation for the DCAA Meet, the Division Technical Officials will have a two-day refresher course on September 22 and 23.
Cerrojales said all technical officials are required to attend the refresher course so they will be allowed to officiate during the meet.
"We have changes in the rules and regulations in each game to improve the quality of play from our athletes. One of the major changes in the rules is the playing time of each player in all team events. We will try to balance the playing time of each player so that all of them will be equally exposed," Cerojales said.
He also said Deped mandated the increase of participants in each unit so that more homegrown talents will be discovered.
The event will feature the regular sports like athletics, archery, arnis, badminton, basketball, boxing, chess, gymnastics, football, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis and volleyball.
Different units are conducting their respective Unit Meet to determine their DCAA Meet qualifiers.
Unit 6 completed its line-up following the conclusion of the Davao Association of Colleges and Schools Sportsfest 2012.
