THE Holy Child School of Davao (HCSD) crushed Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU), 77-64, to clinch the passerelle-A title in the 2012 Best Center Small Basketeers Philippines (SBP)/ Passerelle Twin Tournament held Sunday at the Goldstar Gym in Barrio Obrero.
Mel John Castañeda of HCSD exploded for 22 points, 16 coming from the paint, to lead the Reds, while Vincent Angelo Fernandez added 19 points.
Fernandez was hailed Most Valuable Player (MVP) after being a consistent scorer for HCSD throughout the tournament.
HCSD controlled the tempo of the entire game as their players played tough defense on Addu leaving the latter succumbing to countless turnovers and poor shot attempts.
HCSD head coach Ildefonso Cunanan said he was happy with the way his boys played and that they really listened to his instructions.
Ford Academy of the Arts (FAA), meanwhile, settled for third in the passerelle-A division after hacking out a 85-74 victory over the Emar Human and Environmental College (EHEC).
HCSD booked a finals berth after dominating EHEC, 88-64, while AdDU arranged a titular showdown with HCSD following its 63-59 win over FAA, in their respective semifinal games.
HCSD went home with a trophy and a slot to the regional finals on October.
The SBP division titular clash between HCSD and AdDU was still being played as of presstime.
The tournament was organized by Best Center Davao City under commissioner and tournament chairman Michael Chad Bouffard. (RPSA)
