THE Yngayo sisters, Irish, and Ynna Krisha of Davao Central College ruled their respective classes at the close of the Davao Association of Private Schools and Administrators (Daprisa) Inter-School Chess Tournament at the Abreeza Mall on Wednesday.
Multi-titled Irish scored perfect five points to beat Davao Wisdom Academy's Honey Grace Buenafe and DCC's Lorraine Yngayo who made identical four points to share the second and third spots in the elementary girls division.
Ynna Krisha, for her part, edged Dhona Yngayo for the High School girls title. Both earned 4.5 points each but Ynna Krisha had superior tiebreaks, 9-7. The latter took the runner-up honors instead while DWA's Zsuzsa Grace Tabudlong grabbed the solo third spot with four points.
In the boys' side, Michael John Varquez of Doña Pilar Learning Center Foundation and Christian Bandoquillo of Precious International School of Davao bested their rivals to annex the elementary and High School crowns, respectively.
Varquez nipped fellow four-pointers Eric Yngayo of DCC and brother Norman James Varquez via tiebreak while unheralded Bandoquillo swept all his five games.
Chester Jun Valenzona of PISD and Alex John Benedect Coyno of Shepherd My Lambs Christian College wounded up in the next two spots.
The chessfest served as qualifying for the Unit 9 selection that will compete in the Davao City Athletic Association Meet slated next month.
Ranel Catchucha was tournament director and Ronnie Tabudlong served as chief arbiter. (MLSA)
