THE University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC) booked a finals berth by routing Gabriel Taborin College of Davao (GTCD), 88-56, in the Davao Association of Colleges and Schools (Dacs) Collegiate Sportsfest 2012 Division A men's basketball semi-finals at the John Paul II College of Davao (JPIICD) Gym Wednesday evening.
Mark Lester Osorio made 18 points for UIC while GTCD's Mark Lloyd Canteros sizzled with 20 for GTCD's loss.
The Adonis "Don-Don" De Guzman-mentored UIC controlled the pace of the game early as they opened up a 13-point lead, 27-14, at the end of the first quarter.
GTCD, however, managed to close the gap to six, 28-22, early in the second canto courtesy of Canteros who stole the ball four times and converted on easy transition baskets on the other end.
But UIC's Osorio, Jimm Roy Mayola and Tristan James Aquino made a rally late in the second to extend their lead to 25, 50-25, going into halftime.
UIC never looked back as they capitalized on GTCD's costly turnovers.
UIC arranged a titular showdown against Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) that clinched a finals slot after winning via forfeiture over the Holy Cross College of Calinan.
De Guzman, in an interview, said the team is now focused on pulling off an upset against HCDC in the finals.
