IT'S all systems go for the 2012 Prime Group Inc. Chess Tournament that will get underway on October 13 and 14 at the NCCC Mall function room.
Tournament director Sammie Yu, in text messages to Sun.Star Davao, said some 50 chessers are expected in the event that will serve as tune-up for major tournaments this month including the Davao City Athletic Association (DCAA) Meet.
The seven-round Swiss System format chessfest will feature the boys and girls junior under-20 and the kiddies U-14 divisions.
The champions in the juniors category will take home P800, a medal and a Eureka Chessmat while the next two placers will get P500 and P300 with medals.
The kiddies titlists will pocket P300, a medal and a Eureka Chessmat while the runner-up will receive P200 and third-placer will get P150. They will also claim medals.
Registration fees are P75 (juniors) and P50 (kiddies).
Yu also said Ateneo de Davao University's Marvin Miciano and Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) standout Ella Grace Moulic will be joining the chessfest. Both have brought home medals from the 2012 Asean Age-Group Chessfest.

Yu, meanwhile, said National Chess Federation of the Philippines regional director James Infiesto has set a qualifying tournament on Oct. 20 and 21 to determine the city's representative to the Batang Pinoy 2012 Mindanao Leg slated November 7 to 10 in Cagayan de Oro City.
