Sultan Kudarat netter wins in Cebu

MARK Alfred Directo of Isulan, Sultan Kudarat bagged the 10-under unisex title of the Babolat Jr. Tennis Satellite Circuit held in Cebu City recently.

Directo walloped Diego Dayrit of Metro Manila, 6-1, 6-4, in their titular showdown at the Cebu International Tennis Center Inc., Laray, Consolacion Cebu.

Cebu's Francis Gener Lambayan escaped a 7-5, 6-4 win over Metro Manila bet Jacob Martin in boys 12-under, while Bogo City's Jan Godfrey Seno spanked Cagayan de Oro's Emmanuel Vacalares, Jr., 6-2, 6-3, in boys 14-under.

Eric Olivarez Jr., meanwhile, swept the boys 16-under and 18-under titles at the expense of Stefan Suarez of Metro Manila (6-2, 6-2) and Dave Sebastian Mosqueda of Cagayan de Oro City (6-2, 5-7, 10-8), respectively.

Over at the Mactan Islands Tennis courts, Zethely Mae Alferez of Naga City captured the girls 12-under crown by whipping Kristin Renee Salimbangon of Cebu 6-1, 6-1 in the finals while Jana Pages of Cebu overcame Janelle Carmela Llavore of Cagayan de Oro City, 6-1,6-4, for the girls 14-under plum.

Maia Balce of Metro Manila copped two titles following a 6-2, 5-7, 10-2 win over Alyssa Mae Bornia of Tuburan City in girls 16-under finals and crushing Dawn Albert Uy of Ubay, Bohol 6-1, 6-1 in girls 18-under.

In doubles, Directo and Cesar Kristofer Salimbangon subdued the pair of Sebastian Lhuillier and Dayrit in 10-under unisex while Jermaine Laurel and Christopher Encarnacion combined forces to beat the tandem of Derk Tabotabo and Charlie Cabarrubias 5-3,5-4 (7-2) in boys 14-under.

The girls 14-under doubles title went to Shyne Villareal and Alferez who turned back Rafaela Villanueva and Jana Paez 5-3, 5-3 in the finals.

Jessie Villarin and Michael Necesario annexed the boys 18-under title while Maribelle and Alexis Bangayan ruled the distaff side.

Prizes were awarded to the winenrs by host Citci tennis director Ken Salimbangon and organizer Philta regional-vice president Juanito Cansino, Jr.

Close to 200 entries competed in the Philippine Tennis Association (Philta)-sanctioned Group 2 event that was was backed up by Techo-Sports Corporation president Gullermo Nucom, who is exclusive distributor of Babolat tennis equipment.

The next stop will be Subic Olongapo City on November 2-5, 2012.
