Judo group holds induction of officers

THE Philippine Judo Federatioin (PJF) 11 held its induction of officers at the Holiday Gym and Spa Saturday with its president Paolo Tancontian leading the list of inductees.

Tancontian, head trainer of the Holiday Judo Cllub, earned the cnfidence of the PJF national body after steering the Davao City judo team to its second straight overall title in the Batang Pinoy 2012 national judo competition held recently at the Marikina Riverbank Activity Center.

Joining Tancontian in the new set of officers are lawyer Julius Ceasar Macasaet as vice president, lawyer Racky Malaki as secretary general and Captain Frederick Binoya as treasurer.

The board of directors are lawyer Wyndyll Montero (marketing), Sharon Binoya (education), Ladory Aseneta (sports), Ace Larida (referees) and architect Michael Dakudao (media).

Tancontian, in an interview, said he is very happy that PJF has recognized his efforts of uplifting judo in Region XI and uniting different judo clubs in Davao City.

Tancontian said this will be another chance for the Davao Region to emerge on top after ruling the the Batang Pinoy last ytear. And with the new set of officers, Tancontia said they will try to defend the title during their four-year term.

He also extended his gratitude to the schools that offered scholarships to his players.

The new PJF 11 head also bared his plans during his four-year term. One of these is to continue the grassroots development program by putting up different judo clubs in the region to scout for potential judokas who could make a mark not only in the locality but in national and international stints as well.

He will also conduct several tournaments to give judokas in the region more exposure.

Tancontian is ambitious that he will be able to bring the Batang Pinoy Games national judo competition in Davao Region before his term ends.
He said he will have to get more financial support from the city for him to implement his plans.

PJF 11 is now gearing up for the 2012 Jagsport Invitation Championship to be held in Singapore on November 23 to 25. (Ruji Peter S. Abat)
