PCCL HTC-Gensan wins Minda title

THE Holy Trinity College (HTC) Wildcats of General Santos City upset defending champion STI College Olympians of Cagayan de Oro City, 100-78, to capture the Mindanao title of the Phoenix Petroleum Philippines Inc.-backed Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) at the STI Gym in Iligan City on Thursday.
Christopher Masaglang poured in 27 points to spark the Apolinar Torrijos-coached Wildcats' win as his teammates Mc Denver Polistico and Kevin Joland Pragados chipped in 16 and 14, respectively.
In the battle for third, Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) Crusaders hacked out a 92-66 win over St. Joseph College of Sindangan Inc. Sea Hawks of Zamboanga City.
The Davao City-based Crusaders of coach Adel Nobleza was only up by two points, 17-15, in the first period but they stretched the lead to 68-54 at the end of the third canto. They never looked back to secure the victory.
HCDC was bannered by Gerthry Eben, Arjay Maneja, Leo Bordas, Glenn Manlangit, Lloyd Lacida, Donnie Cantorne, Kim Rosique, Zed Ali, JR Maning, Francis Espiritu, Bong Santos, Xyrelle Carbonel, Jong Roche and Ronald Caharian.
The STI Olympians earlier beat SJCSI, 88-73, while the HTC Wildcats subdued HCDC Crusaders, 83-76.
Two more regional games are scheduled to fill the slots in Round 16 (sweet 16) of the National Collegiate Championship. These are the North/Central Luzon to be held on November 4-6 in San Fernando, La Union and South Luzon/Bicol on November 3-5 at Jesse M. Robredo Coliseum, Naga City.
HTC Wildcats will clash against the Visayas champion in the Round of 16 on November 13 in Cebu City. (Marianne L. Saberon-Abalayan)
