HEAVY favorites Austin Jacob Literatus and Ella Grace Moulic emerged champions anew at the close of the 2012 Batang Pinoy Davao City chess eliminations held over the weekend at the Spazio, third floor, Gaisano Mall of Davao.

Doña Carmen Denia National High School pride Literatus scored perfect five points to rule the boys 15-under over runner-up Raymondwil Mirantes who made four points in the Swiss System format chessfest.

Leo Bhen Sabay, Gino Angelo Asuncion and Bhing Joel Gimony earned three points each to grab the next three spots.

The top-seeded Literatus outclassed Raymondwill Mirantes, Bhing Joel Gimony, Gino Angelo Asuncion, Leo Bhen Sabay and Kenneth James Placencia.

Moulic, a Holy Cross of Davao College mainstay, tied with Dhona Yngayo in the fourth round but defeated the latter via superior tiebreak for the girls 15-under title. Both players tallied identical 4.5 points.

Yna Krisha Yngayo, Marianne Infiesto and Joerlz Gimony grabbed three points apiece to place third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

Ateneo de Davao University's John Marvin Miciano topped the boys 12-under by garnering 4.5 points while four-pointers Kurth John Placencia and Allen Devin de Asis shared the next two places.

The girls 12-under title went to Irish Yngayo who bested Lorraine Yngayo and Florence Faith Guevarra while John Dale Fernandez and Jackie Lou Andoy reaped top honors in eight-under.

The elimination, which was organized through the initiative of National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) regional director James Infiesto, was held to determine the Davao City chess team that will compete in the Mindanao qualifying set next month.

The city team will be sponsored by the city government of Davao through the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office. (MLSA)
