Unit 1 dominates arnis competition

HIGHLY-touted Unit 1 team ruled the secondary boys and girls and elementary boys divisions of the Davao City Athletic Association (DCAA) Meet arnis competition that concluded at the Davao City National High School (DCNHS) auditorium.
The Unit 1 secondary boys team swept a total of seven gold medals courtesy of Palarong Pambansa 2012 champion Bill Amper (full contact extra lightweight), John Carl Fuentes (pinweight), Mark Cabaturan (bantamweight), Wilber Gualino (featherweight) and Anthony Ceniza (lightweight). The other two golds came from the anyo event.
Unit 1 also topped the secondary girls category as full contact division players Jennilyn Morcillo (featherweight), Marielle Mae Ramos (half lightweight category), Denise Lagumbay (pinweight) and Zemira Alagon (bantamweight) chipped in a gold each. Their anyo team also bagged two golds.
In elementary boys, Unit 1 clinched golds behind Zaldro Hanginon (Category E) and John Carl Arangaso (category A) in the full contact division and two more golds in the anyo event.
Unit 4, meanwhile, emerged champion in elementary girls as Ma. Jessielyn Abapo (category B) and Avelyn Mallorca (category A) pocketed golds.
In the badminton event, Deon Ronald Omaña of Unit 1 clinched the secondary boys singles title at the expense of Unit 3 bets Estarco Bacalso III and John Pamilagao who settled with the second and third spots, respectively.
The Unit 6 tandem of Adrian Estremos and Manuel Villanueva crowned themselves champion in the secondary boys doubles event.
Over at the Smash N' Drop, Macy Anne Salvado of Unit 6 seized the secondary girls badminton singles gold while the Unit 3 pair of Irish Molina and Klowie Garcia took the doubles gold.
Unit 6's Arthur Salvado also crowned himself champion in elementary boys singles event even as Unit 3's Ogie Pardillo and Marc Alicando secured the doubles title.
The elementary girls singles gold went to Jennifer Saladaga while the doubles gold was won by Unit 3 pair of Julie Mae Gemina and Karylle Molina.
