SOME 1,500 participants will answer the starting gun when the EnviRUNment 2 unfurls at 4:30 a.m. Saturday at the Ateneo de Davao University (Ateneo-Davao) Fr. Martinez Sports Complex in Matina.
Event coordinator Carlo Magno, who guested with Eleanor Corcino in Thursday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at Dexter's Pizza Stadium, said the bulk of runners are Ateneo-Davao students and faculty members.
Organized by Ateneo-Davao High School and EcoTeneo, a brainchild of Fr. Mike Pineda, S.J., the run is on its second year in promoting awareness and protection of the environment.
"We had a successful run last year and we hope we will again reach our target this year. Part of the proceeds of the event will be donated to Typhoon Pablo victims through relief goods and the rest will be used for EcoTeneo projects," Magno said.
He added they were able to buy garbage bins for the Ateneo-Davao High School community with the funds raised in the inaugural run last year.
Medals and AdDU merchandise await top three finishers of the four-kilometer (4K), 8K and 12K categories.
Registration is P350 inclusive of singlet, race bib and light breakfast.
Interested participants may sign up until this afternoon. (MLSA)
