Escandor Cup elims resume Jan. 26-27

THE 1st Emilio D. Escandor Cup Memorial Basketball Tournament will wind up its eliminations in the resumption of games on January 26 and 27 at the Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC) Gym.

Tournament coordinator Marcel Antonio "Jek-Jek" Melendres, who was a guest at the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at Calle Cinco Restobar along J.P. Laurel Avenue on Thursday, said the top four teams in mini, Passerelle and junior divisions that will enter the semi-finals will be determined after the last day of elims.

Passerelle games on January 26 pit Assumption College of Davao against Holy Child School of Davao at 9 a.m., Ateneo de Davao University vs Ford Academy of the Arts at 10:30 a.m., and HCSD vs Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School (DRANHS) at 1:30 p.m.

The lone mini match at noon will be between ACD and University of the Immaculate Conception.

The rest of the games on January 27: 9 a.m.-HCSD vs Ford (jrs), 10:30 a.m. - AdDU vs HCSD (Passerelle), 12 noon - HCSD vs UIC (mini), 1:30 p.m. - AdDU vs PISD (mini).

HCSD paced the junior bracket A with a clean 2-0, win-loss slate while 2-1 ACD, 1-1 Ford and 0-3 Jose Maria College (JMC) trailed behind. The 3-0 AdDU led bracket B, while 2-1 Agro-Industrial Foundation College of the Philippines (AIFCP), 1-2 Doña Carmen Denia National High School (DCDNHS) and 0-3 Emar occupied the next three spots of the current team standings.

AdDU (3-0) also stayed on top of Passerelle category over 2-0 HCSD, 3-1 Ford, 2-3 Emar, 1-3 ACD and 0-4 DRANHS while 3-0 AdDU led the mini event over 2-1 HCSD, 1-1 UIC, 1-2 ACD and 0-3 Precious International School of Davao (PISD).

Melendres said prizes for team and individual awardees will be announced before the semis round of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP)-sanctioned cagefest starts. (MLSA)
