OVER 1,000 participants are expected to answer the starting gun when the 1K@Amway fun run kicks off on February 9 in an out-and-back course from Tulip Drive, Quimpo Boulevard in Matina.

Amway country manager Leni Olmedo, on Thursday evening's race launch at Amway Center Davao, said the event aims to promote awareness among Dabawenyos that it's easy to join the Amway business, a US-based global company.

"Unlike other businesses where one has to invest a lot, at Amway you can start your business with just P1,000. Another point we want to raise with the 1K@Amway campaign is starting a healthy habit as we start the New Year. It only takes to run one kilometer to start a healthy habit," Olmedo said.

Part of the proceeds will benefit Amway's One By One Campaign for children in partnership with Department of Education's adopt-a-school program.

Deped, however, has yet to identify which school in the Davao Region will be the direct beneficiary of the fun run that features one-kilometer and 5K events.

Race director Kenneth Sai of the Vantage Sports Promotions the 1K route will start from the Amway Center passing through Tulip Drive with turning point at Delongtes restaurant. From Amway Center, five-kilometer (5K) runners will pass through Ecowest Drive going to Quimpo Boulevard and back to origin.

Amway distributors running the 1K and 5K IBO (independent business owner) categories, register by buying Nutrilite daily foil pack inclusive of a race kit. Non-Amway distributors interested to join the 1K and 5K Non-IBO events shall pay P595 to get a race kit.

Top finishers will receive medals and Amway items. All 5K finishers will receive finisher's kit.

An Ipod Touch and gift certificates await lucky participants in the raffle draw after the race.

For registration, visit the Amway Center, Quimpo corner Tulip Drive.

The Davao leg is the fourth stop in the series of Amway races. It kicked off in Manila on Jan. 12 and will next go to Cagayan de Oro on Jan. 26. Baguio City will host the third leg on Feb. 2 while the Cebu edition will be on Feb. 16.
