Escandor Cup resumes at SkyGym-A A +A

THE 1st Emilio D. Escandor Cup Memorial Basketball Tournament resumes its elimination round today, Saturday, at the Gaisano Grand Citimall SkyGym.
Tournament coordinator Marcel Antonio "Jek-Jek" Melendres said Friday that the 10 a.m. curtain raiser pits Ateneo de Davao University against Precious International School of Davao (PISD) in the mini division, followed by Passerelle games between Ateneo and Ford Academy of the Arts at 11:30 a.m. and Holy Child School of Davao and Assumption College of Davao (ACD).
Another mini match at 2:30 p.m. will test the mettle of Holy Child against the University of the Immaculate Conception.
Only three games, meanwhile, will be on hand in the final day of eliminations tomorrow (Sunday) at the Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC) Gym.
The ACD mini will battle UIC at 11 a.m., then Ateneo takes on Holy Child in Passerelle division at 1 p.m. The 2 p.m. main game will feature the juniors clash between Holy Child and Ford.
Ateneo led the current team standings with a clean 3-0, win-loss slate while 2-1 Holy child, 1-1 UIC, 1-2 ACD and 0-3 PISD trailed behind.
The 3-0 Ateneo also paced the Passerelle category over 2-0 HCSD, 3-1 Ford, 2-3 Emar, 1-3 ACD and 0-4 Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School.
In junior bracket A, HCSD stayed on top with a 2-0 card followed by 2-1 ACD in second, 1-1 Ford third and 0-3 Jose Maria College (JMC) fourth.
Ateneo (3-0) kept the bracket B lead over 2-1 Agro-Industrial Foundation College of the Philippines (AIFCP), 1-2 Doña Carmen Denia National High School (DCDNHS) and 0-3 Emar.
Semi-finals and championship games will get underway next month in the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP)-sanctioned cagefest organized in memory of the late sportsman-businessman Emilio D. Escandor.
