THE Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) rallied past Holy Child School of Davao (HCSD), 55-53, to secure the top standing in the Passerelle division of the 1st Emilio D. Escandor Memorial Cup basketball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC) Gym Sunday.
Raul Langbid scored 12 points and Gio Binoya added 9 as the Blue Knights closed out the elimination phase with a clean 5-0 slate.
HCSD led for almost the entire game but Ateneo came to life in the final period with inside plays and hot outside shooting, capped by a Binoya triple.
The Reds dropped their first game after winning four straight matches.
A day earlier, the Blue Knights under coach Miguel Solitaria crushed Ford Academy of the Arts, 92-62, at the Gaisno South SkyGym.
Binoya also played well in that game as he and JJ Beldua combined for 26 points in the tournament sanctioned by Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) and presented by The Royal Mandaya Hotel president and owner Glenn Escandor.
Ateneo will meet Emar in the semifinals while HCSD will play against Ford in the other semis showdown scheduled next weekend.
Lawrence Angeles, meanwhile, scored a game-high 25 points as the Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) posted its fourth straight win in the Mini division Saturday at the Gaisano South SkyGym.
With Angeles playing well and Lance Carr backing him up with 23 points, Ateneo dominated the Precious International School of Davao (PISD), 116-46.
