Calida, Descallar bag duckpin championships

VETERANS Nonoy Calida and Dennis Descallar topped their respective categories at the close of the SBC Bowler of the Month finals Sunday night at the Fairlanes Bowling Center.
Twice-to-beat Calida recovered from a 98-115 first game loss to Cris Betonio by beating the latter, 162-143, in their class A sudden death match.
Calida hit a total of 248 pinfalls after the two-game eliminations to grab the top spot, while Betonio was second with 237.
In class B, Descallar came from behind to defeat top qualifier Nonoy Baluyot in two straight games, 113-95, 112-99 for the crown. Baluyot settled for the runner-up honors, while Ed Mercado, who lost to Descallar in the step-the-ladder round, finished third.
The class C title went to elimination round leader Alex Racho, who edged Bong Villamor, 106-105, in just one game. Villamor and Eric Booc placed second and third, respectively.
Emy Dejiga, meanwhile, captured the ladies championship at the expense of Liza Berandoy whom she defeated in a single game, 103-90. Berandoy was second, while Helen Pugoy came third.
All champions received cash prizes and trophies in event organized by the Sunday Bowlers Club.
The SBC Weekly Dalawahan will resume on Sunday.
Games 5 and 6 of the SBC President's Cup, however, roll off Tuesday night. (MLSA)
