Montaña eyes Araw ng Dabaw title-defense

DEFENDING champion Montaña Pawnshop will try to keep its crown when the Mayor Inday Sara and Vice Mayor Rody Duterte 76th Araw ng Dabaw Commercial Basketball Tournament unfurls on February 20 to 23 at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center.
Montaña head coach Nick Serafica, in an interview during a coaches' meeting at Jollibee Matina Town Square on Saturday, said in the vernacular: "We will do our best to defend our title with a regular line-up of players from the Jose Maria College and veteran mainstays Ronald Lamocha and Mike Mañigo."
The Jigger Saniel-mentored Goldstar Hardware, for its part, will also parade the services of its regular mainstays the likes of Leomar Losentes, Dado Ayson, Marlon Basco and Jonel Jawod, among others.
Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO) officer-in-charge Pochollo Elegino, meanwhile, said The Royal Mandaya Hotel and a Cebu team will complete the cast of the four-team cagefest sanctioned by Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas Mindanao Cluster B director Regino "Boy" Cua.
"The teams will play a single elimination format then the top two teams will play for the championship," Elegino said.
Cash prizes at stake: P100,000 for the champion, P75,000 for the runner-up, P50,000 for the third-placer and P30,000 for the fourth-placer. (MLSA)
