Davao, Western Visayas chessers share lead in Prisaa

THE Davao Region men's team shared the lead with Western Visayas Region remain in contention for the gold medal in the 2013 Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) National Games chess competition at the Narciso Ramos Sports Complex in Lingayen, Pangasinan as of Thursday, Feb. 14.

Both regions tallied 12 points each after fifth round.

Central Visayas and Calabarzon scored identical 10 points for the third and fourth place, respectively, while Bicol Region took the fifth spot with 9.5 points.

Trailing behind were Central Luzon (9.0), Ilocos Region (8.5), Cordillera Administrative Region (8.5), Mimaropa (8.5), Northern Mindanao (7.0), National Capital Region (7.0), Cagayan Valley (7.0), Central Mindanao (6.5) and Caraga (6.5).

Top-seeded Kenneth John Tabada of Jose Maria College'stayed unbeaten with perfect five points have outclassed 13th-seed Lloyd Lanciola of Western Visayas, fourth-seed Prince Mark Aquino of Ilocos Region and fifth-seed Zejih Angelo Merilles of Mimaropa Region in the last three rounds. He earlier defeated Western Visayas bet Jocel Secugal and Mimaropa's Oscar James Buccat.

JMC's Clark Kent Anabieza earned four points while Robert Mendez had three points.

In the distaff side, Southern Mindanao climbed to solo second place from fifth spot by garnering 12 points. Exiquila Apao of the University of Mindanao (UM) Davao swept all her five games while teammates Cristy Grace Ngo (UM Davao) and Erna Liwanan (JMC) made 3.5 points apiece.

The sixth-ranked Apao's victims were Joie Adelaide Lim, Ruby Jade Ambus and Christine Marie Cabrales (Western Visayas), Melina Luis (Mimaropa) and Eda Kristine Dolaota (Northern Mindanao).

Western Visayas paced the women's event with 12.5 points while Central Visayas (11.5) points came third even as Calabarzon (10.5), CAR (9.5), Central Luzon (9.5), Bicol (9.0), Mimaropa (8.5), Ilocos (8.5), Central Mindanao (8.0), Cagayan Valley (6.5), Northern Mindanao (5.5) and Caraga (2.0) wounded up in the next 10 spots.
