THE Lamb of God Sped Academy (LGSA) and Assumption College of Davao (ACD) axed debut wins in the opener of the 3rd Garden Oases Basketball Cup held at the Garden Oases Resort and Restaurant covered court over the weekend.
Buhangin-based LGSA routed Philippine Women's College (PWC), 65-26, in the cadet division of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP)-sanctioned cagefest.
In the juniors division, ACD turned back University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC), 82-78, behind Allyn Bulanadi who poured in 22 points and Michael Gonzaga who chipped in 18. UIC's Clint Joyno and Noel Tabat combined for 39 points.
ACD took an early 10-point lead but UIC trimmed it to five, 29-34, at halftime. Leaning on their momentum, UIC rallied past ACD to snatch a three-point advantage by the end of the third canto as Noel Tabad and Joyno joined efforts to outscore ACD, 26 to 18.
A see-saw battle then ensued at the final period where Bulanadi buried a crucial big trey to lift ACD to the much-needed win in the tournament that also features a cadet category.
Some 14 teams are entered in the league Precious International School of Davao, Philippine Academy of Sakya, Davao Christian High School, Holy Cross of Davao College, Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai International School, St. Therese High School of Sasa, New Ilang Achievers Academy, Southern Philippines Baptist Theological Seminary, Communal Elementary School and Agro-Industrial Foundation College of the Philippines.
