Amazona scores twin kill in Dunlop junior netfest

HEAVY favorite Jeleardo Amazona captured two titles at the close of the Dunlop presents PSC-TCTC Junior Tennis Series third leg at the Tagum City Tennis Club courts in Tagum City.
Dunlop-sponsored player Amazona of Mati City, Davao Oriental beat Jaffary Cariga of Davao City in their boys 16-under finals. Amazona then outclassed Christian Fel Lopez of the Island Garden City of Samal for the boys 18-under crown.
Davao City's John David Velez, Lordrense Pacheco and Dana Abad also captured titles in the event backed up by Asia Traders Corporation, exclusive distributor of Dunlop and Slazenger, and Philippine Sports Commission.
Velez, an eight-year-old member of GSIS Heights Tennis Club, defeated Kobe Dumlao of Tadeco in their 10-under unisex titular showdown.
Velez, who turned back Ronald Gilhang of Tadeco in the semis, said in a statement: "Both semis and finals matches were very challenging until the very last serve. I'm thankful to have pulled it off."
Pacheco, for his part, overcame fellow Dabawenyo Stephen Tubbs in boys 14-under while Abad bested Bless Awatin in girls 12-under finals of the four-day netfest hosted by TCTCI and sanctioned by the Philippine Tennnis Association (Philta).
Mati City's Joshua Region prevailed over Digos City netter Cyrin Martinez in boys 12-under while Rosvel Ann Binondo crushed Jed Vallie Rayne Aquino in girls 14-under.
A total of 108 participants joined the leg. (MLSA)
