Davao golfers way off leaders

CEBU CITY — The golfers from Davao City came through with a much better performance in the second round, but still found themselves way off the leaders in the 66th Philippine Airlines (PAL) Interclub golf championships.
Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club was the better performer between the two teams competing in the Founders division, scoring 116 points at the Cebu Country Club yesterday for a two-day total of 208.
It was a big jump for Palos Verdes in the team standings halfway through the tournament. Occupying 13th place before the round, Palos is now in 7th place in the field of 15 teams.
Joel Yamyamin spearheaded the big second-day charge for Palos with 36 points while Ronald Galicia fired 31. Also scoring for the team were Paul Garcia (28) and Christopher Tan (21).
Apo Golf and Country Club had 106 points for 209, one point ahead of Palos.
Denden de Castro led Apo with 31 points while Pitt Jun Batu had 28. Also counting for the team were Leo Fusilero (26) and Jorge Martinez (21).
Negros scored 130 points Thursday to grab the lead with a total of 233 points.
First day pacesetter Orchard had 118 to slip to second place at 232. Southwoods is at third with 228 and Valley fourth after scoring 220. This year’s PAL Interclub is being sponsored by the Department of Tourism, 105.1 Crossover, Solar Sports, Plantation Bay Resort and Spa, 92.3 FM Radyo 5, Araneta Coliseum and AXN.
