P1.5M earmarked for 76th Araw sportsfest

THE City Government of Davao allocated P1.5 million for the staging of the Mayor Sara and Vice Mayor Rody Duterte 76th Araw ng Dabaw Sports this year.
Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO) officer-in-charge, who was a guest in yesterday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the NCCC Mall Davao Food Cove, said: "The budget covers the officiating fees, prizes and venue rentals for the 20 events entered in the sportsfest."
Elegino said the 2013 Araw sportsfest budget was higher by a P100,000 than last year's fund since they have increased allocation for officiating fees and they also added a few events.
He said the ongoing duckpin bowling tournament opened on Feb. 25 at the Mega Dover Lanes and will end on Wednesday.
The age-group chessfest will get underway at the NCCC Mall Food Cove on Saturday and Sunday while the open chess meet will be held on March 9 and 10 at the same venue. The NCCC Mall activity center will host the karatedo event on the same dates while the cycling race will unreel on March 9 in an out-and-back course from Barangay Langub while.
Schedule for the rest of the events: commercial basketball-March 12-15, 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center; dama-March 15-17, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Osmeña Park; tennis-March 15-18, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., GSIS Tennis Court; billiards-March 16-17, 9 a.m.-7 p.m., John Carlo Billiard Hall; football-March 16-17, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Tionko field; volleyball-March 16-17, 8 a.m.-7 p.m., Davao City National High School; taekwondo-March 17, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Sta. Ana National High School; softball-March 17-31 (every Sunday), 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; judo-March 20, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Abreeza Mall; arnis-March 23, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. St. Anthony Village Brgy. Elegino said dancesports was not included in the Araw ng Dabaw roster of events since it will be entered in the Summerfest while the athletes' recognition was reset to a later date. (MLSA)
