Davao City rules again

DEFENDING champion Davao City kept its over-all championship crown by topping both the elementary and secondary divisions of the 2013 Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet that came to a close at the sprawling multi-million Davao del Norte Sports and Cultural Center in Brgy. Mankilam, Tagum City, on Friday.
Davao City amassed a total of 863 points (384 in elementary, 479 in secondary) from 18 sports entered in the five-day sportsfest to grab the first place.
Panabo City occupied the second spot by garnering 282 points (104, 118) while Davao del Sur placed third with a total of 280 (149, 131).
Davao del Norte (242), Compostela Valley (238), Tagum City (222), Digos City (182.5), Davao Oriental (152), Mati City (124) and Island Garden City of Samal (75) rounded up the top 10.
Davao City bet Christena Granada, a third year student at A.L. Navarro National High School in Lasang, swept three gold medals in secondary girls archery competition. She registered 334 points to dominate the 60m distance over Panabo City's Mary Joy Ariola (237) and Panabo City's Mariz Lagroma (195).
Granada, who will be competing in her second Palarong Pambansa next month in Dumaguete City, also topped the 40m and 50m events.
"I hope to win the gold in Palaro. I was only fourth last year," Granada told Sun.Star Superbalita in an interview.
Over at the Bulwagan ng Lalawigan, Davao City chessers Austin Jacob Literatus of Doña Carmen Denia National High School and Ella Grace Moulic of the Holy Cross of Davao College swept the secondary boys and girls golds, respectively, while John Marvin Miciano of the Ateneo de Davao University and Honey Grace Buenafe of Davao Wisdom Academy clinched the golds in the elementary events.
Davao City's secondary girls team, meanwhile, hacked out a 64-53 win over Panabo to pocket the gold while the city's secondary boys team demolished Davao del Norte, 132-88, in their titular showdown.
In baseball, Davao City's secondary boys squad dusted off Panabo, 20-1.
Top regional performers will form part of the Palaro-bound Davraa team.
