VISITING Jeremiah Luke Bolongan of BTA-Prima Cebu upset highly-favored Dabawenyos to emerge champion in the just-concluded 8th Datba Araw ng Dabaw Classic Tenpin Open Tournament held at NCCC Mall Davao B3 Lanes.
Twice-to-beat Bolongan, who topped the eliminations, recovered from a first game loss by beating Rene Dalayon of Davao Tenpin Bowlers Association (Datba), 258-248, in the sudden death match of their titular showdown.
Bolongan pocketed a whopping cash prize of P50,000 while Dalayon settled for the runner-up prize of P20,000. Datba bets Danny Usman and Mayor Al Langkuno grabbed the next two places to receive P10,000 and P5,000, respectively.
Rounding up the top eight were Imus, Cavite's Rodel Tungala, BTA-Prima Cebu's Clarence Tiu and Datba entries Crystal Chavez and Manny Nierra.
Datba president Ramsey Tancontian awarded the prizes to the winners of the 10-game, four-day competition sanctioned by the Philippine Bowling Congress.
Datba players held the title for the past three years in the annual bowlfest organized in celebration of the Araw ng Dabaw foundation anniversary, thus, Bolongan's feat is considered a huge upset win.
Dabawenyos, however, vowed to bounced back and reclaim the glory next year.
Datba, meanwhile, holds two tournaments every Tuesday and Saturday at B3 as qualifying for monthly finals tournament and preparation for upcoming national competitions.
The group is set to also host a big Kadayawan sa Dabaw tournament in August. (MLSA)
