Veloso falls, Cansino wins in GSISHTC night netfest

REV. Dexter Veloso lost his second match while Juanito "Titong" Cansino, Jr. beat his first round rival as the 1st GSIS Heights Tennis Club (GSISHTC) Night Singles Tournament resumed over the weekend at GSISHTC in Matina.
Veloso, an 8-3 winner over Alvin Supan in the opener, suffered a heartbreaking 7-8 (5-7) defeat at the hands of Joey Libron in their class B clash. Scott Tubbs, who lost via default last time, breezed past Jin Aniga in walkover while Toto Bisnon whipped Calot Pates, 8-1, to also advance in the same group.
Cansino, Philippine Tennis Association (Philta) regional vice president, turned back Bebot Mejia, 8-5, while Dong Velez subdued Rodyl Siapno, 8-6, to advance in class A. Boy Trinidad and Mike Sucgang also hacked out wins at the expense of James Mesa (8-5) and Joelito Solana (8-6), respectively. It was Solana's first loss after beating Chuck Delgra, 8-2, in their first round encounter.
In class C, Chris Cabido routed Arak Bernales, 8-1, to join first round winners Baging Monday and Richard Pajaron. Monday thrashed Mario Gamil, 8-0, while Pajaron won via walkover against Maning Nartatez.
The netfest is organized by GSIS Heights Tennis Club under its president Maning Nartatez. (MLSA)
