Panabo, Tagum beat rivals in ‘Araw’ softball

VISITING Panabo City and Tagum City teams axed debut wins at the start of the Mayor Inday Sara and Vice Mayor Rody Duterte Softball Open Tournament held at the University of Mindanao (UM) Matina recently.
Panabo edged Digos City, 5-4, while Tagum nipped Davao City Water District, 8-7, in the men's open division. The Tadeco squad also drew first blood by thrashing University of Mindanao, 10-0, in the meet presented by the city government of Davao through the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office.
In women's category, Toril High School hacked out back-to-back victories at the expense of UM Davao, 3-0, and Kardams, 7-3.
Tournament director Joaquin "Boy" Sarabia, who was a guest at the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at Calle Cinco Restobar on Thursday, said a total of six teams are entered in the men's event and four squads in the distaff side.
The single round-robin format competition stakes cash prizes to the winners. The men's champion team will receive P8,000 while the next two placers will claim P6,000 and P4,000. Games will resume on March 31. (MLSA)
