A DAVAO City coach downplayed on Friday their chances to win gold medals in boys and girls athletics competition of the 2013 Batang Pinoy Mindanao Leg Qualifying set on August 27 to 31 in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.
Veteran mentor Mamerto Aventurado, in a phone interview with Sun.Star Davao, said the city's tracksters are young.
"Halos sa atong mga players mga elementary pa. Gamay lang ang naa sa high school. Duna tay 50-50 chance ani sa Batang Pinoy. Dili lang ta makasiguro karon pero naay pipila nga dunay dakong tyansa mudaug ug gold (Most of our athletes are still in the elementary and only a few in High School. We have a 50-50 chance in Batang Pinoy. We can't be confident now but there are still those who have strong chances to win gold)," Aventurado said.
He was pertaining to Rosenelyn Depillo of Crossing Bayabas National High School and Ramely Maraviles of Emar College. Aventurado said Depillo, who has been topping the 5-kilometer (5K) events, is entered in 3K while sprinter Maraviles will be competing in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes.
The city's athletics girls team is also composed of Annie Mae Labuan, Jeziel Colmo, Clarissa Benzon, Nicky Lynn Cansinao, Frencis Mae Dayon, Pzydhn Barriga, and Junalyn Durado.
The Joel Felicilda-coached boys team, meanwhile, is bannered by Ronald Demdam, Edrian Bentulan, Fernando Jison, Rico Jay Dayaon, Janwell Ceballo, Joel Torralba Jr., Dave Rusty Paguntalan, Jarred Roi Labrado, Mishael lew Aniversario, and Jomar Angga. (MLSA)
