TAGUM CITY -- Athletics coach Joel Felicilda dedicated the victory of his boys in the Batang Pinoy Games Mindanao qualifying leg to Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.
"This is for Mayor Duterte and the people of Davao City," Felicilda said moments after his wards took a second gold in athletics courtesy of high jumper Fernando Jison.
Felicilda said they could not have competed here without the support of Duterte.
The City Government of Davao had allocated more than P700,000 for the participation of nearly 300 athletes, coaches and officials in the five-day competition.
Aside from Jison, also winning gold for Davao City in the first day of hostilities was Joma Angga.
The 14-year-old Angga topped the boys' 5,000-meter run.
Davao City also won two silvers and a bronze during the athletics battle Wednesday morning.
