TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte -- Samantha Janne Cambronero clinched two more gold medals to sweep all her six events as Davao City raked in a total of 32 golds, 21 silvers and 15 bronzes at the close of the Batang Pinoy Mindanao Qualifying Leg swimming competition at the Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex late Thursday afternoon.
The 15-year-old Cambronero clocked two minutes and 46.86 seconds to rule the girls 13-15 200m individual medley (IM) over Iligan City's Dana Izabel Rivera (2:58.22) and Kamala Anndrea Nualda of Koronadal City (2:58.97) who took the silver and bronze, respectively.
Cambronero, a student of Precious International School of Davao, added a feather on her cap by topping the 100m breastroke with a time of 1:24.08. She bested Rivera (1:26.79) and Frances Jean Marinay (1:31.89) of General Santos City (1:31.89) who settled for the next two places.
"I am very happy to win all golds of my six events in my last Batang Pinoy stint. I will no longer be eligible to play next year so this is a great way to end my Batang Pinoy participation," Cambronero told Sun.Star Davao.
She said her coach Jude Corpuz was also elated by her performance, saying: "Sabi ni coach maganda ang resulta ng training ko. Maganda ang kinalalabasan ng laro ko sa regional eliminations," Cambronero said.
She, however, will have to train harder for the national finals slated on Nov. 19 to 23 in Zamboanga City.
She added, "Gagawin ko po ang best ko sa nationals."
Cambronero hauled the golds in 50m breastroke, 50m butterfly, 200m breastroke and 4X50 medley relay in swimming's opener on Wednesday.
Surigao del Norte tankers, meanwhile, placed second by bagging nine golds and one silver while Iligan City came third with a 7-11-6 medal count. The 7-8-7 General Santos City and 5-4-9 Davao del Norte occupied the next two spots.
Gingoog City, which annexed five golds, trailed behind along with 2-5-10 Koronadal City, 2-4-3 Lambangon, Davao Oriental, 1-4-10 South Cotabato and 1-1-3 Kabacan, among others.
