RAMSEY Williams canned eight of his 15 points on the stretch to lift The Royal Mandaya Hotel (TRMH)-Duterte Agilas' 90-79 win over Pacman Gensan Warriors in the Gensan Tuna Festival Basketball Tournament in General Santos City over the weekend.
TRMH-Duterte Agilas team consultant Jek-Jek Melendres, in a Facebook chat conversation with Sun.Star Davao on Monday, said the Agilas kept a double-digit lead from the start until halftime, 49-39, as Dexter Maiquez leading the charge with 13 points. Former PBA Rain or Shine's import Jamelle Cornley, suiting up for the Warriors, struggled with his nine points while Cong. Manny Pacquiao made four baskets.
The Christopher "Bong" Go-managed Agilas, owned by TRMH president Glenn Escandor, stretched their advantage, 63-47, but Warriors pointguard Louie Medalla buried four triples to cut the lead of the Davao City-based dribblers by just two going into the fourth period.
Agilas coach Miguel Solitaria then re-grouped fielding his best five -- Williams, black import Devon Sullivan, Mark Magsumbol, JR Gerilla and Ian Sangalang -- to help secure the win.
Maiquez also had 15 points while Sullivan scored game-high 18. Sangalang added 14 while Hercules "Jojo" Tangkay and Magsumbol finished with similar eight points.
The Agilas squad was also composed of Mark Andaya, Mark Bonifacio and John Gonzaga. (MLSA)
